Following the “Punggol 21” plan introduced in 1996, Punggol has developed rapidly from a village into a waterfront town. Matilda Riverside is a new housing project offered in Punggol in the latest HDB’s February 2024 Build-To-Order (BTO) exercise – the first BTO project to be launched in this waterfront housing district in more than 4 years.

If you are planning to apply for a flat at this new BTO project, don’t miss our in-depth home fengshui review on Matilda Riverside. Read on!

Located next to the tranquil waters of the Punggol Reservoir, Matilda Riverside sits on the Eastern Dragon in one of Singapore’s crab lands, specifically resembling a “hairy crab”. The land formation here is known as the “Crab Suppressed by Rock” formation.

A crab land is symbolic of strength and vigour. Although highly driven to reach the top, the crab is prone to making rash decisions in its unyielding pursuit for success. Fortunately, it is held in place by a big rock. This means that residents in Punggol are controlled in their journey for progress, striking a harmonious balance at all times.

Located in the Northeast region of Singapore, Punggol has developed rapidly over the past two decades, coinciding with the fengshui Period 8 that favours the Northeast. But is it really a coincidence?

Internal fengshui considerations

When it comes to choosing an ideal unit, keep in mind that the main orientation of a house will directly influence the overall luck of its residents. The house orientation refers to the facing of your house, which can typically be measured from the main entrance where qi flows in.

Matilda Riverside comprises 7 residential blocks of 10 to 19 storeys, with 962 residential units of 2-room Flexi, 3-, 4-, and 5-room flats. Two of the blocks will house an additional 64 units of rental flats.

Based on fengshui analysis, North and South are the most auspicious directions in the upcoming Period 9 and 1 (years 2024 – 2063), and Northwest and Southeast are the second most auspicious directions. It is recommended to choose a unit that faces either of these directions or lies at the border of these directions to tap on the positive energies.

We have categorised the units at Matilda Riverside under the Period 9 Auspicious Home Ranking chart, as listed below.

While the majority of units at Matilda Riverside face the most auspicious directions of Period 9, some units are facing the less favourable directions such as East, West, Northeast or Southwest. Getting a reliable fengshui  consultation can help you to clear doubts and ensure that your household thrive in the coming Period 9.

Nonetheless, do note that there is no fixed lucky direction that caters to everyone. If in doubt, you may like to leave it to the professionals. Way Fengshui provides end-to-end fengshui services from selecting an ideal unit to helping you create a harmonious environment in your new home.

External fengshui considerations

As one’s external environment accounts for more than interior considerations, it is important to consider features of the surrounding space when selecting a new home.

Inspired by the historical Matilda House located nearby, which had a distinctive tropical style accentuated by architectural features such as open verandahs and collonaded walkways, Matilda Riverside features units designed to provide residents with “panoramic views of the waterfront and the courtyard spaces in between the blocks”. In landscape fengshui, a household is considered auspicious and blessed with prosperity and abundance if you can see flowing water from your living room, especially if there is a large door or window that allows an inflow of energy from the river across your home. There are several stacks at block 238A, 239B, 239C that face Punggol Reservoir directly.

On the other hand, homeowners should take note of the features of surrounding buildings or structures that may harbour threats of negative influences or hinder ventilation within your home. The main idea is to garner and ensure the smooth flow of positive Qi (energy) within your new home while avoiding Sha Qi (negative energies).

Sha Qi in the environment surrounding your home can manifest into loss of wealth, accidents, and sickness. If there are sharp edges pointed towards your potential home, consider seeking advice from a professional fengshui  practitioner.

For instance, if your main door faces a long and narrow corridor, you are prone to Corridor Sha, as incoming qi is stagnant. This means that even if your unit is facing an auspicious direction, you might not be able to enjoy the full benefits of auspicious energies.

As Matilda Riverside is located next to Tampines Expressway (TPE), residents should also be mindful of excessive Sound Sha caused by traffic and from overhead planes. Sound Sha may lead to increased stress and blood pressure levels, or even insomnia. To counter this, homeowners can consider using soundproofing technology or installing thick curtains to reduce noise levels.

To the right of Matilda Riverside is existing public housing, while the site directly across is reserved for future high-rise residential development. Take note of potential Sharp Edge Sha, which usually occurs when a residential unit faces the sharp edge of a neighbouring structure. Such negative energies can result in increased anxiety and inability to concentrate, which may affect career and academic development.

Did you know?

Period 9 corresponds with the South, representing a strong Fire element. As such, one should be mindful of locating important spaces within your premises. For example, it is best to make adjustments if your stove (also of fire element) is facing South, otherwise too much fire energy can cause instability and burnout for members in the household.

In fengshui, the stove represents “the female owner of the house”. As such, the state of the stove in your house represents the condition of your mother or wife. If your stove happens to face South, you are highly recommended to consult a professional  fengshui  master for appropriate fengshui measures.

As for those who are planning to conduct home renovation or move in, don’t forget to choose an auspicious date before you proceed. The information is readily available at the Way Almanac App – free for all to download!
