Are you a firm believer of “East side, best side”? Well, if you are looking for a resale public housing flat that has reached its 5-year minimum occupation period (MOP) in eastern Singapore, Macpherson Spring at Geylang could be an option for you.
In addition to having various amenities literally at your doorstep (think MRT stations, food centres, swimming complex, etc.), Macpherson Spring – as it name suggests – is right next to a park to allow residents the enjoyment of greenery.
Let’s take an in-depth fengshui review on this East side MOP housing project to see how it fares in terms of fengshui!
Macpherson Spring: Landform Fengshui
Bounded by Circuit Road and Paya Lebar Road, Macpherson Spring resides in District 13 (D13) on the Eastern Dragon within a fengshui land formation known as the “Five Horses Returning to the Manger”. Water and pastures are key components while the five horses may come from any direction to meet at a point. This formation is capable of enhancing one’s reputation, status and leadership qualities, as can be seen from the transformation of small enterprises to larger ones.
Buildings in this area are recommended to use blue glass and adopt blue and black colour schemes. To further boost the fengshui formation, residents can consider having water features in your home.
External fengshui considerations
As one’s external environment accounts for more than interior considerations, it is important to consider features of the surrounding space when selecting a resale flat.
Located in a mature estate with many amenities, Macpherson Spring promises convenience to its residents. However, homeowners should be mindful that this district is still undergoing redevelopment. Several sites surrounding these (2024 MOP) resale flats are reserved for future high-rise developments. This indicates potential conflict points, as well as pollution and negative energies (Sha Qi) during the construction period.
As we take a closer look at this well-designed housing project, note that there is a T-junction to the front of Macpherson Spring. From a fengshui perspective, T-junction represents potential Sha energy / poison arrow, where the fast-moving qi may collide with the residential premises, implying severe loss for homeowners in terms of career, health or wealth.
From a practical viewpoint, facing the end of a T-junction means more traffic, which means light pollution (from headlights of oncoming cars at night) and Sound Sha from the traffic. Some stacks facing Pipit Road (e.g. 46 and 48) are more susceptible to these disturbances. Homeowners may consider installing sound-proof windows or curtains and blinds for a more conducive space.
At Macpherson Spring, the majority of outer stacks at block 83A and 83B face the Pan-island expressway (PIE). Those who are more sensitive to noises may want to avoid these stacks. If in doubt, consider seeking advice from a professional fengshui practitioner.
Last but not least, the multi-storey car park(MSCP) at Macpherson Spring is 5 storeys tall. There are some stacks at Block 82A and 83B that face the MSCP directly. Affected units on the lower storeys may encounter fengshui conflicting forces (煞气) such as noise pollution (噪音) and headlight flashes from moving cars. This could cause disturbances to daily life such as insomnia. To counter this, homeowners can consider installing a window blind.

Did you know that the main orientation of your house will directly influence the overall luck of your household member(s)? The house orientation refers to the facing of your house, which can be measured from the main entrance where qi flows in.

Macpherson Spring comprises 4 residential blocks of 750 units of Studio Apartments, 3- and 4-room Standard Flats. These blocks stand at 19 storeys in height. Based on fengshui analysis, North and South are the most auspicious directions in these upcoming periods, followed by Northwest and Southeast. We have identified the Period 9 Auspicious Homes below. Do you live in any of these units?

Most units at Macpherson Spring face North/South, which is ideal in terms of home fengshui in Period 9 and Period 1 (years 2024 – 2063). While there is no fixed lucky direction that caters to everyone, those residing in a unit that faces East or West may want to consider a fengshui consultation as these directions are not as favourable in the current fengshui period.
Also, if your main door faces your neighbour’s main door, do display a round light in between the two doors, or hang a Super 5 Shield at the top of your door frame. From a home fengshui viewpoint, conflicting energies between both households may arise and affect harmony if two main entrances face each other directly.

Did you know?
It is unadvisable to have your bedroom door facing the toilet door, and it’d be worse if your toilet door faces your bed directly. As the toilet is a place with moisture and stinky smell, the negative energy that flows directly into the bedroom due to inappropriate door positions will cause illness on bones and muscles. Over time, it may lead to a more serious illness as well as wealth loss.
In the case of Macpherson Spring, both the 3-room and 4-room floor plans show a toilet door facing a bedroom door directly. Homeowners may want to consider slight modifications to the layout or to seek advice from a professional fengshui practitioner for fengshui remedies.
The position of your toilet and where it faces is very important. It should not be directly facing your main door, kitchen door, or the bedroom door (as mentioned earlier). Bear in mind that the toilet door is like a large hole, releasing negative energy, conflicting with the beneficial energy that enters via the main entrance, and it would affect your household members negatively.
