Are Those Kuih Lapis? Or Killer Blades?

“They look like giant yummy kuih lapis…wait, they look like two knife blades!”

“No, that’s The Gateway…”

TheGateway_p2Indeed, the twin towers that comprise The Gateway are a cause for raised eyebrows and may even strike fear into some hearts! Viewed from the front, these two diamond-shaped blocks look like sharp and imposing sword blades. From a feng shui perspective, the sharp edges of these towers create an excess of negative qi that affect The Gateway’s occupants and surrounding environment.

How to avoid negative qi affected by the sharp edges?

Don’t believe us? Take a stroll around the area and you’ll find that vegetation is scarce. Careful observation will also reveal that neighbouring Parkview Square has been strategically constructed so that it avoids the path of The Gateway’s sharp edges – and the bad luck that they bring. It’s certainly no exaggeration to call The Gateway the Killer Blades of Singapore!

Now, you must be wondering: didn’t the architect who designed The Gateway consider the impact of such a design? Actually, before Nicoll Highway was constructed, The Gateway faced Singapore’s south-eastern shore and was meant to represent Singapore’s wide-open gates, inviting visitors from all over the world. If you look at the building from the shore, you’ll understand the architect’s noble intentions. Unfortunately, from within the city, this “gateway to Singapore” ended up looking like sword blades.

TheGateway_p3Thankfully, after consulting a renowned Feng Shui master, The Gateway has made several adjustments to reduce the negative effects of its “cutting-edge” design. For starters, the Metal-heavy environment created by the diamond-shaped towers is now balanced by numerous water fountains and small ponds. Do you know how many of these fountains and ponds there are in total?  (Hint: it’s rumoured that these water features were added in compliance with feng shui’s Castle Gate tactic.)

So the next time you visit The Gateway, don’t forget to count the number of water features around as well as determine its feng shui orientation. This particular orientation will be highly prosperous in the next luck cycle (years 2024-2043).
